It contributes both conceptual and applied insights intended to mobilize meaningful support, inform the development of policies and programs, and support further empirical inquiry into transitional entrepreneurship. The research employs a multi-case study strategy, examining two ESOs operating in Detroit: one that focuses on advancing high-growth ventures and facilitating access to financial resources for technology-oriented entrepreneurs, and another that emphasizes everyday entrepreneurship (particularly within underserved populations) while cultivating a broader, more diverse resource base. Data are analyzed through thematic analysis of organizational materials and interviews conducted with ESO leadership. Narratives generated by ESOs actively influence transitional entrepreneurs in Detroit by shaping their social identities, directing how they engage with the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and articulating a shared vision of a future in which these entrepreneurs play a pivotal role. This study enhances the conceptualization of transitional entrepreneurship by extending existing definitions to foreground the role of institutional actors, such as ESOs, and the narratives they deploy to structure opportunities and constraints. In addition, it expands the boundaries of the concept by incorporating technology start-up founders and emphasizing the contribution of transitional entrepreneurs to post-industrial urban environments, particularly in relation to community transformation and urban development.
